THIS HEALER'S DILEMMA

Let me start by saying, like many people in one form or another of the healing arts, I consider the work I do as sacred.  As such, it has always been uncomfortable for me to bring money into the picture.  In fact, for me money most often was never even part of the picture!

But the picture now is a little bit different.  Thirty-five + years  of exploration, experimentation, and (hard-earned) experience has helped me produce a well-defined body of work whose theme is our value to each other -- at all times -- as healers.

I had a tough decision to make with the story of this...  Here was something of me but not by me. I also knew that the images would sell, yet, it's not my role to focus on their sales.  What I learned in dealing with them is that ALL my healing art work needs to conform to the same standards.

Somehow, I had to honor the intent that the images be for everyone, and at the same time, look out for myself so I could continue to do my work. I chose to make the images and information from my web sites available for free, trusting that people would want to buy high-quality Giclees of images that touched them, or other of my works or services.

This is business naiivity (if not well into the neurotic!), but the truth is I agreed to turn my whole life upside-down to help the images reach whom they need to reach. In return, I've asked them to support me.

I honestly have neither the time, desire, nor inclination to craft my web sites so they are sales vehicles, so if you expect slicker format on a site that does sell stuff, I apologize.

A FRIEND IN TIME OF NEED

I turned over development of my store and businesses to my Nephew, Reid Manchester. He's the only one in the family who experiences life a little like me, yet still managed to get his MBA. This is not an easy accomplishment! I supply the content; he provides the business acumen and structure.

I'm counting on him to save me from my self-destructive giveaway tendencies! As such, the voice you hear calling out from the Store (and in dealing with the business aspects) will be a bit different than the voice you hear on this web site.

THIS ARTIST'S VISION

In the process of getting the lessons that led up to all of this I've been content to live humbly and off the radar screen.  But that humility and invisibility has limited the reach of my work.   It is time for me to help others find their own place as healers.

Since 1998 my total focus has been synthesizing every bit of my life into the programs and projects you see on the mauihealingartist/firetender/thestoryofthis web sites. Indeed, every minute of the time spent was, in one way or another, essential for the images you see to have come to exist at all.  That development time has gone unpaid.  Oh let's cut the crap...it got me in debt up to my third eye!

It's time for me to focus my efforts so they take place in a businesslike manner in a stable environment that provides me the seed money to get every other part of my work effectively out to the people it needs to reach.

My vision has to do with establishing a center here on Maui.  People get to come here.  I get to work with them.  We all get to learn how to be better vehicles for healing.  Simple.  And you also know what that sort of thing takes.

Along the way, though, right from the beginning it's important that whatever bounty comes my way be used as a vehicle to further other things dear to me, and, I believe, important for everyone

             distributed to non-profit organizations.

             toward programs that preserve,
             teach and promote Hawaiian
             indigenous ways of being,
             the land, and services for

Yeah, it's selfish I guess:  I get to live the rest of my life comfortably in direct proportion to my ability to affect people for the good.  I'm willing to take that risk.  By buying my artwork, you get to call me on my intent.

UNCONDITIONAL GUARANTEE

To that end, I offer you an Unconditional Guarantee.  If for any reason whatsoever, and within 90 days you feel that an image you bought from me ceases to touch you in a way or ways meaningful to you, return it to me for a full refund, less 10% (5% re-stocking fee and I'll split the 10% donation to charity with you).  You pay shipping.  Fair?  I don't think Dali did this (not that I'm comparing myself with him) but it seemed a reasonable thing to do.

We've made the choice to offer these images on canvas for one major reason: on canvas the spirits embodied by the images have true presence.  Since you are the one who endows the images with their healing powers, that presence can be a strong ally for you.  Expect us to increase your ordering options.
